Speech of Prof. Dr. Hamid A. AL-RIFAIE:
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. And peace and blessings upon the one who has been sent a mercy for all, our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his companions and all the prophets and messengers of Allah.
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am happy to address this venerable meeting. Really, every time I meet with people of Buddhist I feel with satisfaction! Because they are gentle and humble people. Their religious dress and shaving of their heads hair remember me with actions of Muslims during the Hajj ( pilgrimage ). Also I feel that there are a common religious values between us? What is it ? I hope this meeting will be able to answer such as question! however, We are here to know each other.
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Indeed, the religious values are the basic component and the strongest factor in shaping of the human mind and his conscience. Certainly, the positive human behavior be with the sound mind and the righteous conscience. But the question that imposes itself, are there a common criteria among the religious leaders regarding what is the sound mind and the straight conscience? In general, I think that the answer will be No! where the most of societies today are suffering difficulties in its security and stability; because of there is no human common approach.
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I think, that the topic of this respectful meeting ( The religious values and the world peace), Puts Muslim and Buddhism leaders in front of a big responsibility and a huge challenge in order to discover the values and principles which may help to shape the sound mind and the correct conscience of the human generation.
Also I think that you agree with me; if I said that the required step for establishing the common approach for achieving the world peace is Lies in the discussion of our human religious values to discover the common ground for achieving the world peace and security that we are looking for.
Regarding this matter; Islam has legislated group of the humanitarian values which may help us in achieving our noble common goals. Please allow me to present some of it as follows:
1. Respecting of sanctity of the human life and dignity.
2. Respecting of sanctity of the human's freedom.
3. Respecting of his possessions and his particularities.
4. Helping of the needy people.
5. Ensuring professions and jobs to jobless people.
6. Administration of justice among the people without discrimination.
7. Establishing of peace between individuals and societies.
8. Respecting of the religious and cultural diversity.
9. Respecting of the human brotherhood.
10. Confirming of the unity of the human family.
11. Promoting culture of love and mercy among people.
12. Protecting of the environment from corruption.
On the other hand Islam demands Muslim to avoid the big sins such as:
1. Polytheism.
2. Disobeying of the parents.
3. Violation of rights of the orphans.
4. Injustice.
5. Usury.
6. Violating of the charters.
7. Lying.
8. Killing of human beings.
9. Alcohol and all narcotics.
10. Adultery.
11. Stealing.
Islam presents these teachings as well as the previous principles as an ethical system for achieving the following aims:
1. Constructing of a sound human mentality and righteous conscience .
2. Building of a positive behavior of individuals and societies.
3. Administering of the people's lives and their interests with the right rules.
4. Establishing of an equitable standards for the human rights and his duties.
5. Establishing a safe human coexistence.
6. Establishing of suitable manner for the sustainable development.
Finally, I am on full confidence; that our respectful Buddhist colleagues will present some of the Buddhism values; which may grant us an opportunity for working together to build a common humanitarian method for the world peace .. thank you.
